| Australian Wineries Australian wineries have hit the world stage, and are widely recognised for producing consistently high quality, fruit driven Australian Wines. Western Australia is one of the most isolated regions in the world, but the wine produced in the "sandgroper" state are of an exceptionally high quality. To illustrate, West Australian wineries produce only 5% of the country's wine production, but an amazing 30% of Australia's premium wine production. There are two key wine regions of note in Western Australia - the famous Margaret River in the beautiful South West and the increasingly recognised Great Southern region.Margaret River has a mild, maritime climate and is best known for its intense fruit driven cabernet and cabernet based wines - arguably some of Australia's best. Margaret River is also considered one of Australia's best regions for fruit driven yet elegant chardonnay. The continental climate of the Great Southern has produced some standout riesling and shiraz wines from recent vintages, particularly the exceptional 2001 vintage. Great Southern riesling has been effectively competing on the world stage, with the Howard Park winery winning gold at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London. Howard Park and MadFish wines effectively portray elements of the wines of Western Australia. The premium wines of Howard Park are consistently amongst Australia's most covetted. MadFish's fun, spirited approach and easy drinking style has ensured it is Australia's lifestyle wine of choice.
